Mannbou ... Sunfish

This is the 6/10 pen of the Sailor Creatures of the Deep fountain pens collection. Previously, we wrote about clown fish, Hammerhead Shark, Whales, Octopus and Pengiun.

Sunfish are commonly known as mola is the heaviest bony fish on earth. The average adult weigh about 1000kg (2209lb). They have fairly rough and thick skin. There is no bony plates in their skin too. Strangely they done have much caudel bones. Their skeleton is almost make up of catilage.

Unlike the other fishes, sunfish lack a swim bladder.

Hmmm... ???? How do they maintain their buoyancy????

Their meat contain the same toxin as in putterfish.

They might have long and claw-like teeth, they still mainly feed on soft bodied animals, such as jellyfish and salps.

The artisan Koushu Nishihara skillfully crafted one sunfish on the cap and another on the barrel using the Hira maki-e technqiue.
