NAMIKI YUKARI ROYAL CHINKIN CAT & ROOSTER FOUNTAIN PEN
Namiki launched two Yukari Royal chinkin fountain pens this month (March 2016).
These two chinkin fountain pens are crafted by the same artisan, Yasuji Sumi-san, who crafted the Emperor chinkin Tiger and Peony.
The cat is a very popular theme for chinkin artisan. Sailor released 3 chinkin fountain pens in limited edition back in 2009.
The Namiki chinkin cat uses the same technique as the Chinkin Tiger and Peony - Tenbori (also know as the dot carving technique)
The Namiki Yukari Royale Chinkin is now available locally in Singapore.

Sailor KOP Spring Under The Star Limited Edition
The Sailor KOP Spring Under the Star Limited Edition is the second pen of the Seasons Under the Star maki-e pens series launched earlier in 2013. Sailor launched this series starting with winter; Sailor KOP Winter under the Star. My guess it was winter 2012 when the artisan was working on this project.

Sailor 1911 Sakura Nagare Maki-e Fountain Pen
This new Sailor Sakura Nagare maki-e was model after the Sailor Sakura Special Edition fountain pen that was commission by the Japanese Government to given to the POW during WII, which was posted on my blog back in 2011.
The maki-e artwork is the same. The only diffferent is the model of the pen.
With this new launch of Sailor Sakura Nagare Makie fountain pen, there will be a wider group of users able to use this beautiful makie pen. Many thanks Sailor!

Sailor “KAI” The Sea at Dawn Limited Edition
The Sailor Kai Limited Edition is painted by the same artisan as the Sailor Kurenai (Crimson Red) Limited Edition launched in 2012.
Similarly to the Sailor Kurerai Limited Edtion, The Urushi Maki-e Artist Wataru Kurotobi san painted an abstract image of the dawn of the blue ocean.
This is not a new maki-e technique which maki-e artist Wataru Kurotobi san created.

Sailor KOP Winter Under The Star Limited Edition
Maki-e artisan Moroiki Ikki well known artist whose works have been invited almost every year to the well-known annual Japan Traditional Art and Craft exhibition.
Sailor Co. Japan and Morriki Ikki collaborated to create the "Season Under Star" project. At the time of writing, we do not know if this project will consist of four pens to show case the four seasons or it will just one.
We asked but received no feedback till date. We suspect the deciding factor for the next pen(s) is the sales performance of this Sailor King Of Pen (KOP) Winter Under The Star Limited Edition.

Sailor Endangered Mammals The African Elephant Limited Edition
The African Elephant Limited Edition is the second of the Sailor Endangered Mammals series. The first limited edition pen is the Giant Panda Limited Edition which was launched last May 2012.
While we feel it s a endangered mammals is good theme, the artwork in the Sailor Endangered Mammals have not bring out the best of master artisan Nishihara-san. In my opinion, the Salior Endangered Mammals Limited Edition show each master artisan has their favor artwork, and elephant look does not look like master artisan Nishihara favor.

Sailor Kurenai (Sunset) Limited Edition
Nature has always been a good theme for maki-e art.
Sailor uses 'yuuyake', which mean sunset, sunset, twilight, or evening, as theme for thier last 33 pieces limited edition series for the year 2012.
Beside the day break, the sunset is the next most significant moment in a day. A sign that indicate to us the day is coming to an end; the time to let our hair down, rest and reflect on our achivement for the day.
Kyoto urushi artisan Kurotobi-san illustrated an abstract view of this significant moment on the Sailor King of Pen (KOP) in ebonite with gold trim.

Sailor Take-Nuri
Nobuyoshi Nagahara Commemorative Limited Edition is the latest Take-Nuri launched by Sailor Japan Co. While this is a Take-nuri (Bamboo finishing) pen, there are a few differences as compare to the previously launched pens; Take-Nuri LE Series One, and Series Two.
The very most noticable different is the length and color of the Nagahara Commemorative LE as compare to the others

Sailor Giant Panda Limited Edition Fountain Pen
After taking a break for a year from it "88" limited edition, Sailor is back with a new series this year. The lovely Giant Panda kick start the new "88" limited edition series.
There are three lovely panda on this limited edition pen. Three (三, Pinyin: sān, jyutping: saam1) panda were draw, because the chinese sounds of three is similar to the character for "birth" (生, Pinyin: shēng, jyutping: saang1), which we chinese consider as lucky number.

Sailor Kuji Kohaku Amber 琥珀万年筆
Sailor Company has been following the watch industry very closely. Like the watch manufacturers, who has been launching watches with rare or specially engineered materials, Sailor Company Japan has been doing similiar to the pens.
In the past, they launched Susutake, cedar woods, mulberry wood, brier wood and others. They also work with other Japan companies like Yonex for the carbon fiber fountain pen.
