After taking a break for a year from it "88" limited edition, Sailor is back with a new series this year. The lovely Giant Panda kick start the new "88" limited edition series.
There are three lovely panda on this limited edition pen. Three (三, Pinyin: sān, jyutping: saam1) panda were draw, because the chinese sounds of three is similar to the character for "birth" (生, Pinyin: shēng, jyutping: saang1), which we chinese consider as lucky number.
Master artisan Nishihara-san uses his skillful hand to express the simple black and white beauty of the Giant Panda using kaga maki-e technique on a classic Sailor 1911.
The giant panda was painted using simple line and curved to reflect the simple beauty of black and white.
Bamboo was added to the background to give it dimension of a moving giant panda.
Master artisan Nishihara-san painted two baby panda on the cap that look like they were following behind their mummy panda, the giant panda on the barrel.
Like their mummy, Master artisan Nishihara using single line to paint the two baby panda, and bambo.
The only disadvantage on this Giant Panda Limited Edition is the design of the Panda. If we remember correctly, this Panda design was borrow from a previously discontinue Sailor Kaga Maki-e Giant Panda by the same artisan, Master artian Nishihara.
The Sailor Giant Panda Limited Edition is limited to 88 pieces worldwide and is currently available locally.
