Traditional Symbol of China
The history of peony goes back to thousands of years. It is not surprising there are many mythodlogy surrounding the origin of the flower. Of the legend tells of a story of a physician, who received the peony on Mount Olympus from the mother of Apollo. Another legend describe the same physician as someone who was recused from fate of dying by a immortal by turning him into a flower; the peony.
Regardless what the legend say, we received our peony (Namiki chinkin emporer pen) from Namki Japan.
Peony traditional floral symbol of China, the state of Indiana, and the 12th wedding anniversary flowers. It is widely known as the flower of riches and honor with luxuriant, generous and rounded bloom.
Peonies embody romance and prosperity and are also regarded as an omen of good fortune and happy marriage.
This Namiki Peony Chinkin uses the same technique as the Chinkin Tiger; Tenbori, also know as the dot carving technique, which involves using a concentrated group of dots to form the most delicate amd detail of embellishment. It is also crafted by the same artisan Yasuji Sumi.
With the skillful hand of Sumi-san, the realistic depiction on the pen illustrated the gradual change in the shape of the Peony as it transforms from a tiny bud to a blossom in full glory, beautifully revealing the extraordinary wonder of the natual world.
